What is Implantology

  • A dental implant is an artificial root that is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth or molar. This permanent replacement of the natural root serves as a firm anchor, on which to attach a crown, bridge or denture.
  • An implant is a titanium screw. Titanium is a perfectly biocompatible and durable material. Implants also exist in zirconium. They have the advantage of being white instead of metallic in colour, but over the long term they seem to be less sturdy.

A new technique involves placing implants via an individual 3D surgical guide produced according to a computer-generated design. This simplifies the process both for the surgeon, as well as for the patient. The risk of post-operative pain, bleeding or swelling is almost non-existent.

The other advantage is that fixed dentures can be put in immediately. So that you come into the practice without any teeth and you go home with fixed dentures on implants.
